Our Mission

The mission of Borrowing While Black is to:

  • Identify knowledge gaps and develop methodological approaches to address such gaps by presenting a comprehensive review of the academic and policy literature to synthesize evidence-based research and establish shared knowledge on the root causes of the subprime financial crisis as well as what is known about the dilemma.
  • Produce original research, policy briefs, data analysis, and blog discussions on topics relevant to the subprime and financial crisis.
  • Integrate “best practices” drawn from academia and grassroots communities and disseminate lessons learned to support an action research public policy agenda and evidence-based practice development.
  • Enhance the relevance and validity of community-based participatory research by combining knowledge with action to inspire structural changes in the promotion of fair and equitable access to mortgage products and necessary capital for sustainable economy and community development.
